I may be going to Chile to set up a water filtration system. How is the country? Is it safe? Locals friendly? Any advice is greatly appreciated.

I spent 2 weeks in Chile during 2011, and for what it is worth, I would move there tomorrow if I could make it work. I felt very safe, but we stayed in what is considered the nicest part of Santiago, and in another resort town. The people are very friendly, but if you don't know Spanish, you may struggle. I don't speak Spanish, but made it around ok, it just would have been easier. Just like any city, it has areas to avoid.

The country is beautiful. Santiago is just like any other big city, except, there is skiing 45 minutes to the East, and a beach 45 minutes to the West. To get to the beach, you drive through their wine country. It is awesome.

I also spent some time in the Lake District a few hours South of Santiago. This was unbelievable. Big volcanic mountains and huge lakes.
