I'd suggest calling AA and seeing what options are available when you talk with them. Problem with hawaii flights is they usually leave early in the day (8am out of Los Angeles, 11am out of Phoenix, etc.). That means you need to get to one of those airports before the flight and in this case it's not going to be easy with no MSY-PHX or MSY-LAX flights in the evenings.

Maybe you can look at getting to Honolulu instead of the direct to Maui then have AA put you on an interline with Hawaiian. They have a lot of flexibility since your flight was cancelled
My advice: Don't try to fly out of BTR, LFT, LCH, or AEX. All those flights will cancel. Best option is New Orleans if you can make it down there. Ask if they can switch your return flight to there as well if they need to change your outbound

We are meeting others that are flying out of SHV on Wednesday morning. They are telling me AA hasn't cancelled their flights yet. I'm tempted to try to drive up there tomorrow afternoon to take the Wednesday flight to DFW.

You can do that and then when they cancel SHV-DFW y'all can just drive to dallas together. Sorry not trying to be negative here, but realistic. Below is the forecast for 10am central time on wednesday

I got an email from AA that they rebooked me on Friday afternoon. Not doing that but can't talk to anyone to get it changed.

Wouldn't trust thursday either, there will be remaining delays and everyone from the cancelled flights yesterday, today, and tomorrow (and now even wednesday) will end up on those flights. Friend just got a call back from AA after 2 hr 45 min, put in for the callback and deal with it around dinnertime. Also try contacting AA via their app

If you can't get rebooked out of Vail, next closest airports are ASE or DEN. I'd probably just stay in vail an extra day if you can find a room, it won't be worth your hassle trying to get back tomorrow unless you have to be at work on thursday

We did head straight for rental car. Sadly they had no one way rental options to alexandria so I had to use dollar and one way to lafayette. Took me 11 hours to drive from Dallas to alexandria last night. Usually a 5 hr drive but could barely exceed 30 mph without fishtailing. The roads were HORRIBLE. Dollar rental car sucks by the way.
