There's a greyound that leaves baton rouge at 7:45pm tonight getting into houston at 1:45am...
The problem with houston-phoenix-reno is I think it's $833/person. We are that poor.
Do you have any experience with standby? Any advice on that?
If we can't get the standby, we will ask for the 10:35 AM and hope that the 12:08 out of DFW is delayed by at least 30 min.

I thought you were on the phone with them now? They should not charge you the fare difference by phone, let them know you had a major schedule change that you described earlier (switching morning to afternoon flights) and now are dealing with the inclement weather travel waiver for Dallas.
Yes I do. It's nerve racking
. You just need people to not show up, get stuck in the security line, etc. Ask the agent when they switch you over how the standby list looks for the 7am.
You need to get confirmed on the 10:35am and standby for the 7am and pray that 12:08 is delayed. New York City is getting winter weather tonight and the inbound for that 12:08pm flight is coming from Laguardia, decent chance it will have to de-ice in the morning and hence be delayed a bit.
ETA: I'm guessing they got you on the 10:25am confirmed since I see it went from 3 seats to 1 seat available

frick it.
I'm on hold now to see if we can drive to Houston tonight and get the 6:12 AM for no additional cost.

Oh you have more patience than i do with AA. There's a waiver up that they can change you for free confirmed to other flights, that's unacceptable with their response. They should easily be able to confirm you on the 10:25am and ALSO put you on standby for the 7:35am. Push further when you get on with them and if they don't budge, ask for a supervisor. May take a while, but at that point you can explain the original schedule change and now the waiver and that you're just trying to provide reasonable alternatives to getting to your destination.

Technically no, it states no changes to origin/destination but in a customer service industry it's clear you're just trying to make it to your destination. But they should be able to work with you on getting confirmed on the 1025am since it's still btr-dfw-rno. I'd honestly ask for a supervisor if they won't help
When you had the original schedule change, did it move you to the afternoon flight automatically from the morning flight or did you just book the afternoon flight?

I asked for a supervisor, and she said that wouldn't help. The cost difference to change from Houston was around $1,500 for the two of us.

I hated calling AA, hence my switch to delta previously.
The schedule change is what you need to work with then. Say you had a major schedule change (switched from morning to afternoon without your confirmation) and are looking for different options to get to Reno tomorrow. I can't believe they aren't working with you, I'd ask for a supervisor anyway at this point

What can I expect when arriving at DFW at noon tomorrow? obviously rush to the gate and see if there's been a delay AND room on the flight?
edit: Praying that standby works out for us. Maybe someone was traveling for something other than skiing and cancelled...or some last minute covid thing.

Thank fricking god (excuse my language). Sorry I've been where you're at before and even dealing with them through you is making my blood boil a bit

Got you covered
1. See if your flight is delayed when you're at BTR. If it's delayed, many of the suggestions below do not apply. If you are delayed, relax knowing that you're at least confirmed on that 450pm to RNO.
2. If you are not delayed, see what time it is when you get to the gate in DFW. If you land by say 11:45am and at gate by 11:50/11:55am, I'd suggest trying to run for it and go directly to the gate. Do not use the restroom, do not stop for food, just pass go. Part of this is making sure the RNO flight is on time, which you can check here. Click on the track inbound flight there tomorrow morning once you land in DFW and see what time the inbound is actually scheduled to land/get to the gate. Most turns of large aircraft will require around 45min at DFW (cleaning, luggage loading/unloading, boarding, etc.) so if the inbound lands around the same time as you, you're probably safe to walk over instead of run.
3. Looks like your BTR flight is coming into B24 (definitely B terminal), you will need to take the train to terminal A, C, or D. As of current the 12:08pm leaves from A8 so that's the best news for you, it's only 1 train stop away.
4. At the gate, explain you're on the 4:50pm flight and would like to get on that flight with the weather coming. Have those boarding passes ready (would get paper copies at the BTR airport tomorrow morning).
5. If you want to check availability of the flight, what you can do tomorrow morning is go to AA's website, attempt to search for 2 one-way tickets DFW-RNO, and see if there's more than 1 seat available. Right now, the flight actually looks relatively empty.
Few other things. Do you have seat assignments for the 10:35am? If not, go into the reservation and select two seats now. A lot of times the first people to get kicked off flights that are sold out (the one you're now on is likely to sell out shortly) are the people with unassigned seats.
Oh, are you checking bags or carrying on?
Standby- Set expectations low on making standby in the morning. The flight looks sold out, but as said anything can happen so we'll keep our fingers crossed. I'll be up at 5am on my way to go skiing so I'll keep an eye on this the rest of the afternoon/evening, definitely let me know if you make standby. If you do end up making standby, when in DFW go find an agent and switch to the earlier flight confirmed.

Yeah I'm surprised it's still snowing here honestly, had only snowed once in the lowlands since I moved.
Totally understand for a ski trip, I would suggest they check this bag on the earlier flights in BTR (both earlier flights for BTR-DFW AA4068 and DFW-RNO AA2188). Make sure the checked bag tag that prints out shows the earlier flights on it. If it doesn't, see if they can change the bag tag for the earlier ones since you don't know if you'll make it on standby. You'd rather your bag make it than risk it being left behind in DFW in the snow. Also sounds like your friends on that flight could pick up her bag if they made it before you? Might be worth getting one of them to check it (paying them of course) so it's officially on those earlier flights rather than playing the standby luggage game

The good news is I think our friends can check her bag. They are ON the 7:35.
So, did this actually happen??

Yes it cancelled, just checked on AA's site.
Call AA again now, get on hold. Wow, there's availability all of a sudden on AA4068 the 730am! See if you can rebook via the app or online immediately, it may let you given the cancellation.
I'm eagerly waiting to see if you can get this flight finally! There's 3 available seats left, hoping you get through in time.

Your inbound plane is on its way to BTR as we speak so you'll have a plane and flight crew ready for the am. Your flight from Baton Rouge is one of the first 40 that lands tomorrow morning so I think you'll be able to make it in to DFW, just need your Laguardia inbound flight to run smoothly now.

Nah, although have thought that'd be a cool job. When you travel a good amount, you end up learning a lot about airline issues, air traffic control delays, weather patterns, etc. The combo of knowing how to handle/prepare for each unique event is how I try to operate. Your situation today is the equivalent of a complicated order and we won't even know how it turns out until tomorrow
I think you got the last 2 seats on there, flight is now sold out in economy. I'd make sure to check in now as well

Can only imagine the stress especially at a Hartsfield Jackson ATL. That would be chaotic.

At first I said "I need the 6:12 AM from Houston and I need it for free" and then I backed up and said, actually, my first preference would be the 7:35 out of BTR.
She's like, well there happen to be seats available. Let me take you off of standby.
and I'm through the roof...but I'm wondering if there was always availability on that flight and they were just giving me the runaround until the 4:50 was actually cancelled.
