Sedona is less than 2 hours away from Scottsdale.

100% recommend making time to see it, it’s absolutely gorgeous there. I go for day trips there multiple times a year.

The Camelback Inn is amazing. You will love it. Nice spa and easy rides to old town and Fashion square mall.

I think it’s worth the effort to go up to Sedona. Go on a day where you can finish your day with a dinner at Elote. Unless something has changed they don’t take reservations, but the wait isn’t bad. If you don’t want to do a hike there you can do a pink jeep
Tour.

There is an outdoor mall there that is enjoyable called Tlaquapaque or something (pronounced tah-lock-ah-pock-eee). Wife may enjoy that as might you. Decent lunch options there.

Sedona too unique to pass up on a 4 day trip if its just the two of you and you are mostly gonna sit around on vacation.

Also, right down the road from camelback inn is El Chorro which is i really cool setting to go have drinks. They have a restaurant but it’s been a while since I went so can’t vouch for quality.

Sedona

pro tip: I-17 turns into a parking lot heading north starting Thursdays, and sees tons of traffic heading south on Sunday afternoons. but Sedona is still worth the visit. drive up 89 along Oak Creek at least up to the Indian Gardens. they have a lovely patio in the back to have lunch or drinks.

Frankly, Sedona deserves more than just a day trip. You’re going to end up spending 4+ hours in the car that day just driving back and forth which would cause you to miss out on another day in Scottsdale.

I suggest picking one or the other or expanding your trip to 6 days, spending 3 days in each location.

Sedona:

I’ve stayed at Hyatt Piñon Pointe and Arabella. Both were fantastic.

Dinner at Mariposa and Dahl & Deluca were highlights for me.

I always recommend a treatment at Sedona New Day Spa.

I stay away.

It gets super crowded in the warmer months with lots of trashy people. There are lots of pullouts and picnic areas (don't forget to get a Red Rocks Pass) along Oak Creek and if you are willing to hike just a bit you can access some beautiful spots.

Is Grasshopper Point still there? Little dangerous but was fun.
