Where to stay in Philadelphia?

This board helped me out tremendously with a trip to Chicago several years back. Is there a place in Philly similar to the Mag Mile in Chicago? I guess the main purpose of our trip will be an event at Citizens Bank Park, but we do not have to stay near there.
Thanks in advance for any help!
Edit- Time frame will be early September if that matters.

Rittenhouse Square would be the only thing comparable (maybe not, never been to Chicago just googled it) but it's the upscale area in Center City with shops, hotels and restaurants. I stayed at the double tree on broad when I was house hunting and it was a nice central location, walk to old city to the east or rittenhouse to the west. My company usually puts customers up in Sofitel and Aka rittenhouse and they always seem to like it.

I second this recommendation. I've stayed there twice when in Philly on business. The rate is fantastic for the location which is very close to Temple University.
Get an Uber and go to Jim's for a Philly Cheesesteak. It doesn't disappoint.

Was in Philly for two weeks last summer, as mentioned the whole area around Temple U has a nice vibe and good places to eat and drink. Its really a fun town and everyone we met was cool.
That said, that is the dirtiest city this side of Manila you will ever see! If you go to places around the river expect to see rats with Navy tats!

Uhh. I live in Center City Philly and you couldn't pay me to go out around Temple. North Philly is not a place for tourists. Stick to the center city area.

I was about to say...OP stay in center city/rittenhouse square, north philly is not a nice area. That's like telling someone to take Septa to the Olney terminal and wait for a connecting bus for an hour . A few blocks off Broad St. it gets pretty bad by Temple
