Our foodie level is definitely a 10 so the food item advice is much appreciated.
Do you have a car?
Just my opinion but must-dos around the French quarter:
Grab a drink and Walk Royal St from beginning to end. Duck into some galleries, watch a street performer, stop at Jackson square. I think it is the most unique street in New Orleans.
Hit up Lafites Blacksmith shop (bar) for its divey goodness
Pat O’Briens would be worth a stop. There are 2 really unique bars inside, one being a lively piano bar
Central Grocery is home to the best muffuletta in the world. Get a half, some Zapps chips & a root beer & enjoy.
Longway Tavern is a new cocktail bar with grub. Love their courtyard, it oozes French quarter vibes
See Jackson Square & the St Louis cathedral, check out a mass if you’re inclined
Try & get into Galatoires for lunch on Friday. You’ve never eaten anywhere like it
Get a drink at the Carousel bar in the montleone hotel. Have 1, then walk to Arnauds French 75 bar. Then walk to the Sazerac bar inside the Roosevelt. 3 classic bars that my out of town guests always like.
Being from Utah I’m not sure if you have casinos there, or if you’ve been to Vegas but Harrahs may be worth an hour of your time.
Take it to Frenchmen St for any live music needs, it’s a short walk from the FQ.
Food:
Brennan’s, Sobu, Cafe Amelie, or Stanley for breakfast/brunch
Seaworthy for oysters
KPauls for a nice picture of Nola cuisine
Restaurant Revolution for a great upscale experience
Tableau has balcony seating over looking Jackson Square.
Arnauds is the best old guard restaurant in the quarter, IMO, if you want that experience
Maypop & Compere Lapin are 2 new award winning spots doing unique stuff
Cochon will show you unique preparations from our region.
Take a street car down Canal St to Parkway bakery for great po boys
I’ll think of some more for you
