Hi all,
I cancelled a business trip to Germany earlier this year.
I have until Dec 19 to book a flight on that reservation. It is for $1140.
I was planning on going to Vietnam/Japan in February but the fares on United keep going up. It’s cheaper to book on another carrier. The fares are showing $1500+ and I still have to pay the $300 change fee on top of that. Other carriers are showing $800-1000.

What to do with the credit? I don’t mind paying the change fee. I have a few other destinations i want to go to next year... Greece, SA, or Argentina/Peru. It’s too early to book on United bc the fares are showing to be $2000+.

I also don’t want to book anything too far in advance bc I have some work complications coming up. Might be moving to Miami, might not. Can’t plan anything too far in advance.

What would to do? TIA

$2000+ to Peru? That doesn't sound right unless you're flying business class.

It’s an example. I can’t even book anything past February because I might be relocating to Miami.

It’s $1000 for Peru in May.. but can’t book it bc I might not be living here anymore.

Set up fare alerts on Google Flights for several flights that you might want to take. International flight prices change all the time. Also sign up for Scott's Cheap Flights . THere are deals out of IAH all the time.

Time is the inflexible variable in this scenario: when can you take a trip between now & Feb? Pick your dates first, then start searching on Google Flights for various destinations that interest you. Find one that is $1,000ish and re-book your ticket.

Stop worrying about what happens later on, and find a way to use your flight credit sooner rather than later.
