Also, for those that have experienced Louisiana summers and Phoenix summers, how would you compare?

Give me Phoenix summer anytime over summer in LA.

I lived in LA for 27 years before I moved to AZ in summer of 2005. Yes...it is hot in the summer. Highs will be triple digits from sometime in May until September(sometimes even October). But you find ways to deal with it. You do outdoor stuff early in the morning or in the evening. Pools are very popular here for obvious reasons. Many outdoor patios of restaurants/bars have misters as do many outdoor shopping areas. Also you really have to factor in the lower humidity...100-105 heat here is MUCH better than 100-105 heat in LA cause of the lower humidity. It feels like the inside of an oven here when it's hot...vs inside a steamroom in LA. Finding shade makes a huge difference as well as to how hot it feels.

Also...while there still are mosquitos here...it isn't quite as bad as during a LA summer. No lovebugs either so you won't have those all over your car...people here look at me weird when I mention lovebugs

Best part...it's very easy to get away and escape the heat for a day or couple of days. Just drive to higher elevation 2 hours or so away for a 30 degree drop in temps in some places (Flagstaff for example).

I've always said it's like a 10-15 degree difference or so between dry heat in Phoenix area and the southeast with humidity. So 110ish here is pretty similar to 98-100 there. I much prefer the dry heat. 102-3 in LA/Florida is worse than anything you'll experience in AZ

Arizona summers aren't that bad. It's hot, but you barely sweat. I wear a lot more sunscreen in Arizona than I did even in Florida. I tend to wear long sleeve, synthetic fabric shirts too to fight off the burns.

This is very true. Many underestimate this.
