Looking to redeem some miles, and one of the only options back from a destination with Business Class is to switch planes in DC from Dulles to Reagan. 3.5 hour layover coming from overseas.

Anyone ever done this? Ever gone from Dulles to Reagan.

I assume I would have to go through customs in Dulles, get my bags, then take the bus + Silver to Reagan or a Cab, and then go back through security in Reagan.

Seems like a pain in the arse.

What time do you land? Nova traffic is a bitch.

My wife's family lives there. If you don't have Global Entry I'd probably forget it. If you do, I think it's doable, especially if you don't check bags.

I'm actually sort of doing what you're doing this week but not exactly for the same reasons of business class tickets. Flying to Reagan Thursday and out Dulles on Friday morning. Couldn't find a flight that could make it in time to do it in one day.

I think an Uber will run about $60 minimum.

ETA: BTW, if you want to get into redemption options I can try to brainstorm some options if I know what points you're working with.

Gotcha. Where are you heading/coming back from? As you are probably aware American's routing rules are harsher than United, for example, you can't go to/from Asia via Europe. Wasn't sure if this is related to your Australia thread.

I found Cathay Pacific to have great availability FYI
JAL was good too.

I find the Wikipedia article for airports very helpful for award booking. Airlines and Destinations section is clutch.

I agree with all of this. I would assume a minimum of 1 hr travel time by car from IAD > DCA, to be on the safe side. Unless of course it's 7 am on a Saturday.

Also, keep in mind that the Silver line is not completed at IAD, yet. So you would take a bus from IAD to the Rosslyn (Orange line) Metro stop, take Orange line to DCA. Security at DCA can be a pain depending on time of day and if you have Global Entry/TSA precheck.

Looks like Teddy has you from here

What time of day? You'd be on the airport road inside of the Dulles Toll Road and then get off to get on 66 and quick hop down 110 to get to Reagan National. Do you have Global Entry? That would speed things up at Dulles.

It's certainly doable but I wouldn't like it.
