Looking for something for next winter. Been once to heavenly in South Lake Tahoe woth no kids. Looking for something to rent with a store nearby to do own cooking to save a little.

How serious of a skier are you? Looking for more advanced terrain? Do you want to be closer to a populated ski town or more of a remote location? Other preferences for things to do while in town? So many options...

If you're looking for a good beginner/intermediate hill with a cool town nearby you could always stay in Dillon or Frisco and hit up Keystone and Breckenridge. The lift tickets at those resorts are transferable so you can experience both. Steamboat would be another good option in Colorado with a great town and great skiing.

The hills near Salt Lake City, Utah such as Park City, Snowbird and Solitude are great too and easy to get to from the airport. I'd say you cant go wrong with CO or UT. Either way, you're guaranteed to have a good time. Just make sure you rent a 4x4 or shuttle to the hill.

Angel Fire, it's mostly greens and easy blues. Very mellow hill that's perfect for beginners.

ETA: Taos is a very cool town, but the mountain isn't really for beginners. Only a handful of beginner runs. There's some darn good skiers in Taos getting after it on their steeps.
