June 8th - 15th 2017 (7 nights / 8 days)

Flew American Airlines into Charlotte then from Charlotte to Cancun. It was a very round-about way of getting to Cancun but CC points were used for the flights in turn giving us limited options. We booked this trip after reading reviews on Trip Advisor and a previous post on this Travel Board and were not disappointed.

We booked transportation from the airport to the resort through USA Transfers. It was very easy to book online and cheaper than going through the resort. After landing and going through customs, DO NOT stop for anyone when trying to find the USA Transfers people. They will be outside the airport and have signs held up in the air. It is a private transfer with only your party and takes you directly to the resort. USA Transfers sends multiple confirmations emails and does not charge you until you get to the resort. It was $80 total roundtrip for myself and girlfriend.

Upon check-in we were immediately asked if we wanted to go to a special breakfast(timeshare presentation) the next day. We politely declined, but were asked about it two days later in the lobby as well as received a phone call in the room on the last day. This is the only complaint we had on the whole trip. DO YOUR RESEARCH AND TELL THEM YOU ARE NOT INTERESTED IN THE UNLIMITED VACATION CLUB!!

As far as the resort, there were more than enough restaurants to choose from and the alcohol was continuously flowing. All of the servers, wait staff and pool service employees were as nice as can be and would bend over backwards to provide excellent service. The food portions looked small but were very filling. The restaurants will put out a wine list, but the bottles are outrageously priced while the house wine(white, red, rose) is free. The Japanese restaurant offers hibachi and reservations will need to be made as soon as you arrive at the resort as it fills up fast. The other part of the Japanese restaurant is open every night and offers multiple dishes in large portions.

The entertainment staff would have multiple things to do during the day and also offer a rainy day schedule. The nightly entertainment provided different shows each night and was some of the best entertainment of any all-inclusive resort I have been to.

The pool and beach area was very spacious and never filled up. While we were there, the resort was at about 80% capacity. The Maroma Beach area of Mexico has been having a seaweed problem for the past few years. This resort does an immaculate job of cleaning up the seaweed. There is a machine that goes up and down the beach two times a day picking it up as well as the workers are constantly raking it up.

We DID NOT do the upgraded preferred club and after the vacation was over were glad we did not do it. There was not another thing that we could have wanted as an "upgrade". This resort was top notch all the way around and we will definitely be going back.

Nice review. How were the prices?

I am looking into going to Mexico in February and I'm not sure which resort to choose. Wife and I did Playa Mujeres two years ago for our honeymoon and loved it. It ran about 5K though. Thinking of going somewhere south of Cancun this time

Depending on when you book, Junior suites at SMB are anywhere from $500 to $625 per day. Also depends on what type of room. Went last year and will be there again in a few weeks as part of a 3 week trip. We get the swim up room which is a little more but worth it for us. We are going there this year on a small group trip, booked in January and we got a great rate. $425 for a swim up room. That is this month which is not a peak time so the rate is lower.

His trip review is very similar to the one I did last year and I had some pictures with it. Look at the list above.

Its a very nice resort, food is on the better side and they have top shelf alcohol. Rooms are very nice and the service is outstanding there.

ETA - Sorry my images on my trip report were missing. Got hosed by the PHotobucket deal. I believe they are fixed now and I added a few more lower in the thread.
