I would definitely suggest getting off at the Battleship. You don't have to actually go on the battleship if that seems like too much of a hassle. There is a huge park and a bunch of airplanes just outside where you can walk around and get a break from the car.

Also, all of the restaurants around the USS Alabama are good. For kid-friendly, I'd go to R&R Seafood or Ed's Seafood Shed or Blue Gill or Original Oyster House (in that order).
