I’m thinking of taking the family - wife and 2 teenage daughters - to Phoenix for Mardi Gras. Fly in late Friday Feb 21 and come back Wednesday Feb 26.

Obviously we want to visit the Grand Canyon. The deluxe day trips are about $180 a person. Has anyone ever done one of these and is it worth it?

Also, what are other things to see and do? We know there’s hiking, day trips to Sedona and we also want to visit ASU’s campus.

It’s a 4 hr drive from PHX to the GC. A round trip is not something you’ll want to do in one day.

Just got back from Sedona today. Stay there. It’s a great jumping off point to everywhere and it’s gorgeous! 2 hr drive to GC. Less than hr to Cottonwood and Jerome. Great hiking trails, spas, dining, and shopping. Warning: It will be cold there and up at the GC. These are high elevation locations. 4000-6000 ft.

If you want warmer weather along with college visits, stay at a resort in Scottsdale. Visit ASU and U of Arizona in Tucson (2 hr drive) from there.

Agree with all of this. Or fly into Phoenix, spend a night in Scottsdale, then head north to Sedona. Bring layers and you will be just fine! There is so much to do within 2 hours any direction of here!
