School me if anyone has spent much time down there.
Would prefer to rent a house on Pacific side, with a private dock and a boat or rent a boat elsewhere that we can keep at a dock. Would consider anchoring boat down if house on a calm cove. Could be that you cannot rent a boat there at all like some other countries.
House would need to be on the nicer side to really nice with 4 BR minimum.
Want to fish offshore, spearfish, and snorkle.
I am not even sure when "the season" is down there. Any help would be much appreciated.

Fly (20 minutes) or take the ferry (1 hour) from Panama City to Isla Contadora. There are houses and boats for rent there.
The island is about 1 mile long and 1/2 mile wide. There are other uninhabited islands around it as well. Pretty good fishing and whale watching there.

I was down there for three weeks for my wife's 30th birthday in 2009. It's great. Its like Costa Rica with less infrastructure.
We went all over the country. Bocas del Toro, Bouquete, David, Chriqui. Panama City. We even went to the Darien National Park, which at the time was sketchy with Columbian Guerrilla forces. It's very diverse environmentally. I'd have to go back and look at where else we stayed, but three I remember are:
La Loma
Hotel Panamonte
Bluff Beach Retreat
There all sorts of great things to do there. Name it. It was a great trip.

Tropic Star resort. Very secluded, self sufficeint resort catering to the sport fisherman. 3 buds and I are headed there later on this year. We did Los Seunos in Jaco Costa Rica last year and had a blast, but when we heard that to get to the fishing grounds the quickest then we needed to go to Panama. The shelf is literally 14 to 16 miles offshore, 20 minute boat ride. Hope this helps!

Please post a review after you go. That is #1 on my list for fishing trips. Want to catch roosters from kayak and then do the usual offshore.
