I was told by a relative who is 68 that they are going on a Carnival Cruise in Jan. He and his wife are very high risk. Just wondering if you were high risk would you still go on a cruise before a vaccine? My biggest fear would not be from dying from the COVD (although that would suck) but being quarantined in my stateroom for 14 days if an outbreak occurs. I was telling them if they need to go somewhere go to an island but there is no way I would go on a cruise right now.

I would wait a year before considering a cruise

probably just as safe as staying in a hotel. those places aren't as clean as you think. it would suck if you were stuck in a stateroom for 14 days!

My parents loved to go on cruises, multi-week Silver Seas, Oceania type stuff. They joined my dad’s siblings on Princess that was a “good deal”. Flu broke out and my dad got sick so he went to the ship doctor and a follow up appointment the next day. My parents were quarantined for several days and received a $12k bill for the doc two visits. Word quickly spread about the doc cost; no one else went to the doc and just dealt with symptoms. Screw all that.

Morale of the story is book your vacations with a Chase Sapphire Reserve and don’t go on cheap cruises.

Wait a year

Seems pretty random. Any particular reason why 1 year?

Yeah, but you can leave a hotel at any time.

SARS-CoV-2 (ie. corona) notwithstanding, why would anyone go on a cruise anyway? OP, tell your parents to find a different option.
