MSC Cruise - how strict are they with dress code? Going in July

Going to Europe on a msc cruise in Europe. It will be hot. Can I wear golf/khaki shorts and a polo to dinner in the main dining room?

I have friends that went a few months ago. Many dress up for dinner. He wore shorts. They have a program that matches your status on other cruise lines. The food is geared towards European taste. And the drinks were pretty bad.
