Does anyone know what it’s like around that time of the year? I know it’s bloody cold, but we are hoping to see some snow on our trip. Is this likely in the city?

Cheers!

I'm in Mpls most years for Thanksgiving and temperature/snow can be hit-or-miss... Could be 20s one day and 40s the next. My recollection on snow is, it hasn't been much in the Twin Cities at that time of year for the last several. Maybe my memory is clear on this instance, but there was a beautiful snowfall in 2019 during the Wisconsin/Minnesota game. That was a lot of fun. Anyway, I would go in with the expectation of only a dusting of snow, and be pleasantly surprised with measurable fall.

Thanks for your help, I’m assuming you go there most years for the game? What’s the game day experience like there? We might catch the game if we go over thanksgiving.

We are looking at staying at the renaissance hotel on 3rd Ave. would that be a good area/place to stay in town?

50/50 shot. May have some unmelted snow on the ground, but I wouldn’t say it’s a given.

That’s pretty good odds!

Yeah we could definitely hire a car is it a day trip? Or would you recommend also staying there?

Yeah, I've gone quite a few times. I'm in Minneapolis plenty other times, as well, including this past weekend. As for the game, Paul Bunyan's Axe is longest-running FBS rivalry. Pregame and game is always fun because, if you aren't familiar, there is a ton of crossover between the two states - similar culture/heritage, tuition reciprocity (HS students going to the other for school), work, family, etc. Generally, too many people know each other for this to be a rivalry driven by hate. In other words, pregaming in Dinkytown will a lot of fun.

Minneapolis has some great neighborhoods (e.g. North Loop, Northeast, Dinkytown, Prospect, Loring) but downtown is a bit sleepy. Generally, hotel is fine and you'll get around without issue. Wouldn't expect a bustling city center, though. If you can, check out North Loop - Hewing Hotel, Element (Hyatt), and TownPlace (Marriott). You'll be near a number of bars, breweries, and restaurants. If you do go to the football game, you can take the Metro Green Line from Target Field station to Dinkytown / Huntington Bank Stadium. If you stay at Renaissance, you can take the Green Line, too, from Government Plaza.
