Do not rent a car, for numerous reasons. Your hotel can arrange a reputable driver for the entire for less than $100 usd and he will take you anywhere you want to go.

We wound up getting lunch reservations for Pujol and dinner reservation for Quintonil this Saturday. Can you let me know what to expect regarding proper attire? We'll obviously be doing touristy stuff in between. Do I need to wear slacks to both?

Both casual. No shorts, but jacket not necessary. I wore dark jeans with a button down to both and was not underdressed.
You are doing both on same day? Would not recommend. We did Pujol for dinner with lunch at Quintonil the next day. Pujol lunch will be about 3 hours. You will be full. Unless you have very late Quintonil reservations, I would look into doing it another day.
Pujol is a set prix fixe, Quintonil does offer a la carte as well as a prix fixe, so you could do a lighter dinner. But the prix fixe at Quintonil is outstanding.
If you have to choose one, I would say Pujol. Contramar is a great choice as well. Excellent seafood, casual setting.

Yes, both on the same day. Pujol Sat. lunch was the only reservation option available and we were on the waiting list for Quintonil for both Fri and Sat night. Of course, Sat night is the one that came through. Not ideal but we figured 'why not?' since it was our only opportunity. Both are closed on Sun. and we fly out Mon. a.m. May look at Contramar for Sun., thanks for the recommendation.

You will enjoy. Sounds like our vacations. Have to squeeze in attractions between eating. Be sure to get the dessert cocktail at Pujol - espresso and Liqor 43.
I recommend the tuna tostada and whole fish at Contramar. If you are in Roma in the morning, get a coffee and pastry (or several) at Panadería Rosetta.
Watch the Somebody Feed Phil Mexico City episode LINK to get you excited about trip. He's a little goofy, but it's a fun watch.

Mexico City/Latin America is pretty formal. White collar types always wear slacks and dress shirts.
You could get away with jeans for lunch, I wouldn't for dinner though.

the street tacos in the small cafes that are a block or two off of the main square are awesome!! I love the condiments too, but the heat is ON!!

How did you pull that off? I can’t get one until the middle of September. I’m dying to go and try the Mole.

I just went on their site and there was a lunch spot available. Maybe try the wait list? We did that for Quintonil and wound up getting a spot.

Thanks, someone told me that Opentable was the only way to make a reservation, but I just grabbed dinner reservations on their site. Thanks!
