Longhorn Cavern State Park - Trip Review

A while back, I asked about this cavern tour and wanted to follow-up. We went on this tour today. It was a great way to get out of the extreme heat. The trip to the Park took just a few minutes over an hour from downtown Austin. The State Park has hiking trails and an observation tower but we passed because of the heat.
The cave tour was a guided walking tour. We had 26 people in our group but we saw 2 or 3 other groups with closer to 10 people. The most strenuous climb was getting up and down the stairs to the cavern entrance because after that, the descent was gradual. The lighting was well done and the guide was very knowledgeable. Much of the cavern was inaccessible prior to the removal of debris in the Depression but the accessible parts were used by Comanches and locals prior. The guide told stories of events that occurred in the cavern and old photos from the Depression era placed along the tour made it come to life.
The tour was approximately 90 minutes. 2 people had to leave the tour because of claustrophobia.
It was totally worth the time and money ($20) for the tour and would be even better if you could take advantage of the hiking trails and observation tower.

Yes I personally enjoyed these caverns more than Carlsbad just due to smaller crowds and the tour guide. Extremely unsuspecting place for a cavern system that large
