After years of reading about this place on here, I’ve finally booked a trip. Anybody ever stay at Ixchel?

I think HGG has. We stay at Hotel Secreto. They treat us like family.

We stay at Na Balam. Ixchel is nice but is home to the most crowded beach in the entire island.

HGG, we’re going to be at NaBalam from June 19-25

I was confused by the website. Is it on the beach or is across the street from the beach?

HGG will be there while you're there. We arrive on the 27th. Sorry we'll miss meeting each other.

I have a feeling this won’t be our only Isla trip. Maybe we’ll catch y’all next time

Right on the beach! Their smoothie bar has some smokin’ hot Argentinian women working there. Hippies, but still hot.

Awesome sauce.

What dates will y’all be there?

I’ve already been scouring your and VA’s old posts about restaurants to try to come up with some sort of plan.

My family will be there June 21-28th. Can someone tell me average price for flights? Right now seems very high, but I have never been so really don't know. Thanks for any help.

We’re flying from LFT with a layover in dallas and we paid a little under $1000 for two tickets.

But we’re also leaving and returning on weekdays

The prices were pretty high up there though. Unless you want to fly Spirit and only bring one bag you’re going to spend between $400-$600 per ticket

Last week(s) of June. Flights from Houston to Cancun are cheap. Southwest Airlines flies round trip and has some great deals.

We’ll be there July 6-11. Next question, how is swimming with whale sharks? Is it worth doing?

Swimming with Whale Sharks is a once-in-a-lifetime experience. If the season is prime and you're keen on doing it, I wouldn't miss it for the world.

restaurants

Eat at Bastos!! Closed on Thursday. Get the arrechera with a baked potato.

Fredy's on Hidalgo. Dopi's on Hidalgo (lobster burrito for $8).

ETA: We prefer to eat authentic Mexican food when we're on Isla. It's great. It's cheap and it's plentiful. We can get European styled food anywhere.

Avoid most of the restaurants on Playa Norte. They're just churning people, the service is generally terrible and the food is below average IMO. Hidalgo Street has much better options.

From what I understand swimming with the whale sharks is amazing. We'll be doing it while we're there.

Supported.

...with 1 exception for breakfast:

North Garden looks a lot different now since it was redone. Food is still the bomb though...breakfast or lunch.

F’n right it is. If their coffee doesn’t ignite your morning dump I don’t know what will.

You have to make it to the south end of Isla and have a frozen mojito at The Joint. I also enjoyed the breakfast quesadillas at Mango Cafe which is about mid-island. Ruben’s is great for breakfast, lunch or dinner and isn’t far from where you are staying. I second Dopi’s and the lobster tacos. I also enjoyed fajita night at Soggy Peso. Rooster on Hidalgo is also a solid choice for breakfast and their bread is homemade. I stayed across the street from North Garden and had breakfast there twice and lunch once...it did not disappoint.
