Hutchinson Island is a barrier Island in South Florida, between Stuart and Fort Pierce. I live 25 minutes from the beach there, and am pleasantly surprised with the beaches here.
The beaches are typically quiet and there is not a lot of traffic. If you aren't staying beachfront, there is tons of easy beach access with free parking. We go to Walton Rocks beach, which allows dogs off-leash. The water is beautiful and depending on the conditions, surfing is an option. Shelling is usually very good.
Lodging can be pretty reasonable. Bayside waterfront Air BnB can be found for less than $100/night.
Nightlife is sparse, but there are a lot of casual local seafood restaurants to try - both oceanfront, as well as Bayfront. There are restaurants in Fort Pierce at the north end of the island, Stuart at the south end, and Jensen Beach in the middle.
There is spectacular golfing opportunities in the area. There's a reason Tiger, Rory, Justin Thomas, Dustin Johnson, Phil, and other live in Jupiter, which is 30 minutes south. There are a lot of courses on or close to the island. Marriott has a golf resort on Hutchinson Island.
If you want a relaxing vacation on the beach, this is a nice option. It's not really drivable from Louisiana, but if you are going to Disney in Orlando, it is a 2 hour drive from there if you want to split a vacation between amusement parks and the beach.

Im headed to Hutchinson on Monday! Have a house booked on a canal at Windmill Village. Got a couple of fishing charters booked. One down at Lake Ida for Peacocks and other exotics. Then the next day for snook and tarpon. Being a fishing guide myself its going to be nice to sit in front of the boat for a chance.
Whats your thoughts on The Magic Oyster Bar? Looks like its within walking distance to the house.

I've only eaten there once. It was pretty good, as I remember it. It's in a strip mall, so ambience is just okay. There is also a sandwich place that serves ice cream in that strip mall.
The nicest restaurant on the Island is Kyle G's, a d its probably walking distance, as well. It is expensive, though. Kyle Green also owns Circa69, just across the Causeway.
Shuckers is on the Ocean, just up the road. Conchy Joe's is another casual Seafood place right across the bridge. Dolphin Bar has a good Sunday Brunch.
There are a number of casual places in Jensen Beach - the downtown area is only a couple of blocks long.
Have fun. Is your house on a canal? You may be able to wet a line off your back deck.
