Wife and 2 year old boy - Kona? Any cool surfer town/city that month?

The Ironman World Championship is always the second saturday in October just as an FYI. The town will be very crowded for the whole week before and after and hotels/condos are significantly more expensive. Just to be aware, but if you are in town that week it's a lot of fun.

Visited in October 2012. I recommend 2 step for snorkeling, very nice. Also take trip to Southpoint and jump off cliff into ocean.
