Me and the wife will be flying out to Boston in mid June and have a 7 and half hour layover in NYC, was hoping to see a few of the sights while there. We’ve never been and were hoping we could see a couple of the major attractions like the Statue of Liberty and/or the freedom towers. Not knowing anything about the area, My question is, will that be possible with the time we have and the distance of each of them from the airport.
This will be on a Saturday, in New York from 9:30am -5:00pm. Out of JFK.

TIA.

It's definitely possible. Howard Beach station (you can get there by the Air Train) will take you to WTC. Takes about an hour. There are better views in NJ, but you can get a good view of Statue of Liberty from Battery Park which is just a few blocks from WTC. NYSE is also close by.

Going beyond lower Manhattan might be pushing it

I would take the train into the city. You definitely have time to see 1 or 2 things.

Take the air train at JFK to the Long Island Rail Road (LIRR) at Jamaica Station. Buy a roundtrip ticket into the city. Once in the city, you'll be at Penn Station. You can take the subway from there or walk to Times Square area. I'd probably go downtown as well to world trade center, Chinatown, and maybe even keep going in Brooklyn so you can get to a point where you can see the statue of liberty. Forget where the Staten island ferry is but that's by far the best view of the statue you will get and it's free

Agree with Bama Bird, train to WTC, from there you can walk around the WTC site, walk/short subway ride to battery park where you can see the Statue of Liberty and it has some cool views. Between Battery Park, NYSC, WTC there are good restaurants in that area, but not sure about Saturday hours as that area is more active during the week. Could also take free Staten Island ferry for great views of the statue, but its at least an hour round trip, and that's if you hurry to get off at Staten Island and run to the other side of the terminal to catch the return trip back ferry.

Last, from the WTC its a 10-15 min subway ride to mid-town and a few more minutes to Times Square. That could be pushing it with your timeframe, but it could be fun to go to Times Square, walk around for 30 minutes and see the sights, then head back to lower Manhattan.

I would take a taxi into Manhattan, it’s a flat rate of $52. Depending on where you are going and the traffic, it’s usually a 45 minute ride from JFK to Times Square.
