I don’t disagree. I think for a family of 5 in November we didn’t spend over $300/ night and most were closer to $200. Our Rome Airbnb was 2 bedroom with washer and had a nice balcony for $988.

We only carried on. I can carry 4 days of clothes plus what’s on my back without issue with a carry on, and we make sure we have a washing machine routinely if not nightly.

There’s nothing wrong with staying in nice expensive hotels, but you don’t have to. Or mix it up, stay in a nice hotel in one location and an apt with a washer somewhere else
