Chicago, where to stay

What’s a good area to stay at for a weekend in Chicago. I’ll be going to the United center on the Saturday night so the closer to there the better. I know absolutely nothing about Chicago except that there are some dangerous areas so I want to stay far away from those

West Loop-Fulton market area is the closest. Downtown or River North isn’t far.

Man that would be awesome if there was a Chicago mega thread on the first page of this board...

Chicago thread: LINK
Damen Green Line station opened last summer and is just a couple blocks walking from the UC, so you don't have to limit yourself too much.
West Loop / Fulton Market has some hotels, but tend to be on the expensive side since it's the biggest restaurant neighborhood in Chicago.
If I were you, I'd stay at / check hotels (e.g. Hyatt Regency, Royal Sonesta, etc.) along Wacker. There's a concentration of them across all price ranges, and it's a quick walk over to State/Lake or Clark/Lake stations for the Green Line.
Hotels are absolutely nowhere near any dangerous neighborhoods, so don't spend time worrying about the actual location.
