Looking to head to Mexico or the Caribbean this December. I know a few people who say Mexico is relatively open. I have a list of which other countries are open, but was looking for some more first-hand information on how open "open" really is, as I'd hate to take a trip and be confined to my hotel room and am certainly not looking to quarantine. Obviously the countries' tourism websites aren't very reliable for a real-world experience. I see Aruba, Sint Marteen, St. Thomas, Jamaica (or Hawaii?) as viable from MSY. Bonus if flights/hotels are cheaper than non-COVID times and/or are Southwest, JetBlue, or Hyatt amenable, but not a must.

I believe the BVI is currently scheduled to open up December 1.

That said with outbreaks occuring it wouldn't surprise me if that changes.

How long can they afford to stay closed?

Good question. The health care system down there is the problem. It's just not equipped to deal with COVID.

I know a lot of people believe it's just a bad cold or whatever but let's try to keep the politics and personal beliefs about COVID out of threads like this and just keep them informational.

I do agree with you about the financial impact of staying closed. I also don't know what, if anything, the British government is doing for the people in the BVI.

Just returned from Cancun. Stayed at the Breathless resort. Resort is open. Downtown Night clubs were still closed.

I've been to St Martin many times and always stay at the Orient beach location on the French side of the Island. Its my favorite Island. So much to do and explore. Me and my wife rent a car and you can travel everywhere on the island and visit on the fun locations.

I just spent 4 nights at Stellaris Casino Resort in Aruba. Everything was open except for one bar but reduced hours for casino.

They were at 25% which was amazing. It was our 2nd time there and we didn’t have to fight for beach position or wait for any dinner reservations/excursions. There were times we were the only group in the pool.

Travel was a pain in the arse with the uploaded COVID test and wearing masks in the plane and airports. Didn’t enforce mask that much while at resort. In fact no one mentioned it other than check-in. 100% staff wore mask the entire time.

The casino sucked as only 3 people to a table with glass dividers. Made getting a spot very difficult. I skipped all the table games and just used the sports book
