Cancel Flight From Chase Ultimate Rewards?

Wife was supposed to fly to Vegas tomorrow with 3 girls to see Adele. Adele cancelled all of her concerts today due to covid issues. Booked the flight (American Airlines) through the chase ultimate rewards portal (sapphire preferred) but it was a "non-refundable ticket". Do I have any recourse here either through the sapphire preferred benefits or anything else?

You won't get any benefits from a canceled concert. You may be able to get an AA credit depending on the type of actual fare. Problem is you have to call Chase to do it and their customer service sucks. For future reference while the "Pay Yourself Back" feature is there, book directly with the airline in cash and then pay yourself back an equivalent amount.

You can likely get a credit. Get on the phone asap

Dropped my CSR after 5 years last month. Trying to book tickets and I couldn’t understand the Pakistani woman on the phones because her chickens were being so loud.

Doubtful. Why not just go and do something else?

It doesn't, but paying yourself $200 back for a flight or paying yourself $200 back in other qualifying charges is still $200 and you're able to book direct. Found out the hard way dealing with Chase Travel with COVID cancellations. The 1.5x is worth the squeeze if PYB isn't an option, but if you can avoid a 3rd party without loss then you should. For hotels you could use hotels.com and get every 10th night free if you want to use a 3rd party while still getting 3x for travel.
