Not even close to apples to apples. Jesus Christ.
You get in your car and drive to Savannah. That's not even remotely the same as getting from a hotel to the train statin (early because you don't know the station) and then getting from the train station to the new hotel. The OP was talking about going from Innsbruck to the Dolomites on a train (with a connection), renting a car to drive to the Dolomites (where in the Dolomites?) just to overnight and travel again the next day.. That's easily a full fricking day of travel to just say he stayed overnight in the Dolomites. Then to Cinque Terra the next day (across the country and another full day of travel). That's basically spending your first three days in Europe filled with travel days on top of jet lag. Oh wait, you don't get jet lag driving to Savannah do you?

OP updated so it’s moot point but OP still isn’t saying where he is flying into. Assuming Milan, but CT is not close to an international airport. Maybe Florence I suppose? I mostly agree his schedule isn’t making a lot of sense.
Cinque terre is 6 hours from Innsbruck. That’s not an absolutely abysmal drive over 2 days.
The comment about the car needing to be compact is laughable. There’s interstates and the roads he would be traveling off the path are likely great roads. Again that’s moot now.
I’ve driven from Venice, Italy to Munich in a day which was 6 hours and stopped in Innsbruck for 2 hours for lunch and a walk around the downtown and then did Neuschwanstein castle that afternoon and made it to our hotel in Munich and then train to Oktoberfest for 2 beers before they closed down at 10.
Traveling locations can be fun and enjoyable experiences in and of themselves. Driving the European countryside is very enjoyable to me, stopping at markets and stores and what not that look interesting. They generally have very good roads.
The biggest issue is doing all that the day of arrival when you generally have a half day at best and are tired and jet lagged, so very very limited. I also agree not doing a bunch of travel days like that on one trip, but just once or twice on a longer trip there’s nothing wrong with that. Also not overpacking so it takes 2 hours to gather your shite and get moving.
Some people say to do one place well. But you don’t really know how much you will like or dislike a place until you have been there. It’s not always the worst to explore and come back to your favorite places.

I don't disagree with traveling around to see a lot of places. What I don't agree with is travel days stacked on travel days. Unless someone wants to say I ate dinner at that city and spent a night and left it makes zero sense. To each his own I guess.

Haha! So upset about nothing.
I love that jet lag addition. You made sense until that silliness. lol!

The original itinerary makes a ton of sense if you are a train buff who wants to check out as many routes and types of trains in a short amount of time. Otherwise it’s a fool’s errand.
