planning an anniversary trip for wife and I. I usually like to stick with Hilton properties unless I get a good recommendation. for those of you that have been to aruba, any recommendations on lodging. wife wants resort type location on the beach. i'm hoping to be close to off site restaurants and bars. thanks

We stayed at Barcelo Aruba. Beautiful beach, right across the street from bars and restaurants. We loved it!

Just got back this week. Stayed at the Renaissance in downtown Oranjestad. Pretty awesome. They own a private island with two beaches, one for families, the other is adult only. Water taxi picks you up in the lobby, they run at least two boats all day. They have two properties, on is timeshares, the other is a hotel. The hotel is adult only. No freaking screaming kids doing cannonballs in the pool! I'm definitely going back there. Tons of good restaurants withing walking distance. I highly recommend the Driftwood.

Yes, but the view is of a small marina/pool. The private island is for the beach. They have a restaurant and two beach bars on the island with service to your beach chairs. I like beach front, but to me, this is the best of both worlds. I don't have to carry anything to the beach other than sunscreen. The plethora of shops and restaurants/bars adjacent to the hotel made it a win/win. Here's the link to their site:

Ritz has a nice property, several restaurants in house, next door to Marriott that has some nice restaurants, and many more within walking distance.
Not walking distance from the main part of town where the restaurant/bar district is located.
