Thanks for all the input. We're going in September for a month. Will be a combination of "working from the AirBnB and side trips/1 week off" kind of trip, so need to find a couple of great places to go.

If you have a few hours to kill Eugene is worth checking out. Oregon's campus was nice. Duck's team store and their track stadium is cool. You can walk from campus to downtown where you'll see all kinds of crazy stuff.

Go salmon fishing. It's possible to catch one from the bank but there are a lot of guides you could fish with.
September to October is prime time fishing.
