Going to Costa Rica and going to do a side trip up into Nicaragua where the lakes and volcanoes are. Granada is supposed to bee cool and is the oldest city in the Western hemisphere? San Juan del Sur on the west coast is supposed to be nice?

Anyone ever been there before?

We contemplated doing Nica on our trip down here. Just be aware that you can't take rental cars over the border from CR, which is what ended up dissuading us. We didn't feel like checking in our car and then dealing with the whole shuttle bus rigamarole.

All that being said: I'd do it next time. Nica is supposedly what CR was 20 years ago. Cheap and undiscovered. And yes.. the San Juan Del Sur area is supposedly amazing.

Thanks man...yeah I know you can't take a rental over there and we are taking a shuttle to San Juan del Sur. I have heard nothing but good things about Nicaragua so good to here.

Went to San Juan Del sur a few years ago for 5 days and it was pretty sweet. I would recommend it for a cheap vacation. We hit Grenada on the way back to the airport and was cool seeing that city as well.

Granada, Masaya, Tipitapa, Managua, hiking around Mombacho, Playa San Diego--all beautiful country. If you're thinking Granada, I suggest looking into visiting Laguna de Apoyo--plenty of attractions on the N/NW side of the laguna.
