How much did you end up paying for the suits and shoes? I’m thinking of getting a couple suits while I’m over there. Are we talking like $50? $100? Did you bargain those down? Did they mention anything about shipping those back, since I’ll just have a backpack? And also would you recommend a specific place in Hoi An for those? Sorry for all the questions.

I ended up paying $220 a piece for my suits, but I picked a better quality fabric. You can get some in the low $100's if you pick a cheap fabric though. I didn't really negotiate, mainly because I suck at it, and they seemed to be a more professional operation anyway. Maybe I could've gotten them cheaper, but considering the service I got it was a steal regardless.
I bought them at a place called Kimmy. It's directly across the main walking bridge downtown, you can't miss it if you cross the bridge.
You can definitely find cheaper, but I did some research and went off a couple of recommendations. Apparently the big difference in tailor shops there is some make their suits in house, while others (the majority of them actually) send them out to be made.
Although the difference may seem negligible, considering they can't send them very far because they're ready in a day or so, the in house shops can alter the suits basically on demand.
I tried mine on at least 5 times over 3 days to make sure the fit was perfect, and they had the seamstresses in person ready to make slight changes. I must say the service was impeccable, and my tailor (Jade I believe her name was) was even more picky than I was. What looked ok to me, she wasn't satisfied and would tell them to change it.
They'll ship, but it's more expensive than I thought. I think roughly $30-$60 per depending on time to ship, which I didn't want to pay, so I took mine home in my luggage. They were packed nicely and did fine in our carry on.
The shoes were made at another place. $40 a pair. Those can be had anywhere. Plenty of places.

Oh and if it makes a difference, they had a rough time with my build. They're used to petite and slender Asians. I'm by no means huge at 5'10" 175, but by Asian standards that's like Arnold Schwarzenegger. And I'm more of a muscular athletic build, which again they aren't used to.
My tailor was having fun picking on me, but she had her work cut out for her. I assume some people don't have to be fitted as much depending on their build.

Since I live in Abu Dhabi since 2003, I have been to Thailand about 65 times (like a 2nd home), and that is not going for 3 years from Covid. It is only a 6 hour flight and there are 3-4 direct flights per day on Etihad Airways. The golf there is unbelievable and of course the city when you know where to go.

Nicely done ... and I like how you didn't shite on BKK like many people do. I have spent almost a year of my life there for work and it's an amazing place. I also have a Vietnamese partner, so it does make for an interesting experience when traveling with a native speaker.
I have been extremely luck to work 2 out of the last 6 years in SE Asia and was addicted from the first time I landed in Chiang Mai. Vietnam is my absolute favorite and these photos brought back smells and memories and fomo. Thanks for the extensive sharing!
