re: 10 Hours In Paris...

I would take the metro to the louvre (nice architecture outside and see the pyramid entrance, walk along the river to Notre Dame, then hotel de ville. This will cover some ground in the central tourist area and suffice plenty for a day. Then I’d walk through and spend the rest of the day in the Marais neighborhood - beautiful, very Parisian, less touristy, some shopping, and probably have a 3 hour meal with wine after all that walking.

At the end you could take a taxi (stay above ground if traffic is reasonable and see the city) to Montmartre and walk up the steps to have a view of Paris at night and then short taxi to g d nord. Eiffel fine from afar, champs would cut out.

Well here is another wrinkle, since training to Paris for a day is sort of a cool, indulgence anyway, skip the site seeing early and just do a long lunch in Paris. Then spend rest of afternoon rambling around the city.

If I was doing it solo, I probably would totally consider that. But when another person is involved, you gotta compromise to some degree.
But hey, they have forgotten about the Champs Elysses already!

Can’t argue with that. Would avoid anywhere central though. Food generally is rubbish and for tourists there, while spectacular just outside.

After the second bottle of wine, the idea will seem glorious. How many people can say they went to Paris just for lunch?

Goshdarnit. Signed up for Tigerdroppings just for this: Favorite place is Rodin Museum. There's a cafe there so you can pick up items and picnic in the gardens surrounded by the sculptures. Bonus, nice bathrooms on site. Double bonus, shot of Le Penseur settled amongst rose bushes with the golden dome of Hotel des Invalides, and the tip of Eiffel Tower in background. Absolutely, my favorite place in all of Paris. Skip Champs Elysee. It is now full of Western stores (Sephora, Gap, etc.). St. Germain (6th Arrondissment) has local, upscale shopping. Check out the small side streets for the more interesting stores. I second walking along the Seine. You can hit Eiffel, Hotel les Invalides (outside) on way to Rodin. From Rodin can walk along Seine to St. Germain or to the Louvre. Back of Notre Dame has a peaceful park, and you can get Berthillion ice cream nearby.
