Dear diary, today I'm using the YouTubeTV app available on the LG OLED B7a, watching FIFA World Cup games. It looks like garbage.
I switched to the over the air antenna and it is amazingly clear and sharp. I then switched to the YouTubeTV app on a Shield TV Pro. Not as amazingly clear as the OTA broadcast, but still very watchable.
Then tried it on my Sony OLED A8H which uses the Google TV UI, and it looks very good. Still not as good as OTA, but not bad at all.
I deleted the app on the LG TV, reinstalled it, and it still has a soft, fuzzy image. I tried changing image profiles and that doesn't work.
Bandwidth test on the LG shows 938Mb service via Ethernet from the router. Changed to WiFi, it reduced speed to just under 200Mb, which is plenty, and still the image is bad. All other streaming apps on the TV are very clear.
So, something is either affecting the app negatively in the TV, such as the on board image scaling, or YouTubeTV has performed an update to the app that does not work well with the TV's image processing.
Nice that I have options, but since neither LG or YouTubeTV care or make it easy to seek out support, I just thought I'd vent.

Probably safe to assume you are getting the 720p/1080i broadcast of the local fox affiliate.
I think it is generally accepted that Sony has some of the best upscalers in the business.
The OTA picture is typically superior since it is not getting compressed a second time by your cable/satellite/streaming provider.

We use YouTubeTV on a Sony Bravia and a Samsung via the onboard app. No picture quality issues
