About to move and am looking at options between Xfinity and AT&T Fiber

Seeing up to 800 mbps with 140-channel cable for $100 for first 2 yrs. My understanding is their performance is pretty notoriously bad but I'm curious if they've improved on that at all. And wondering how far off from 800 mbps it will actually be?

These days cable provisioning seems to be very solid. With an 800Mbps plan and a docsis3.1+ modem, you'd probably see well over 800Mbps actual throughput.

The problem with cable internet is the upload speeds. If you will be working from home and depending on the occupation, the upload speed reduction can be a big headache. For the average user, the upload rate is no big deal.

On the Xfinity 800mbs plan with no TV and seeing about 940mbs down and about 18mbs up, read they over provision 20%. I'm using my own Motorola MB8600 Docsis 3.1 modem and an Ubiquiti Edgerouter 4.

be warned the picture quality with Xfinity is not good with the cable boxes. You will get better picture quality if you use the Xfinity streaming apps on your TV or streaming device. You can also save the costs of boxes/DVRs doing it that way.

Also Xfinity has the data cap, which is complete horseshite. I have Xfinity because it’s my only option. Service has been overall pretty good, and the speed is dependable though.

I'm on the Xfinity 100 mbps plan. Gave me all I needed with two people working from home last year. We also stream lots of TV, often the same sports event going on multiple TVs. I use my own Arris Surfboard SB 8200 modem (rather than rent from them).

Just ran a speedtest to see what I really get compared to the 100 I pay for. Pretty close.

Download Mbps
115.49
