Just got an Xbox Series X to replace my old Xbox One as the main entertainment device in our living room. Unfortunately the series X doesn’t have an optical audio port, only HDMI out. My LG TV (LG-LB5200) is about 9 years old and doesn’t have HDMI ARC nor an optical audio input but my sound bar (Sony HT-CT780) does.

LG TV spec sheet

Soundbar manual

Looking for a temporary fix to have the Xbox sound run through the soundbar until we upgrade our TV this Black Friday. Is this possible? TIA

Datasheet does not seem to suggest there any audio output ports?

EDIT

Looks like your soundbar has HDMI in and out.

Xbox -> SoundBar In -> Soundbar out to TV

Yeah I tried that and I think because my TV doesn’t have HDMI ARC it doesn’t work on the pass through.

ARC shouldn’t matter if the sound is coming from the XBox. Do you see a picture at least from the XBox? If not, it may be a hdcp handshake issue.

Nope no video signal at all nor sound when trying to pass through the sound bar. I’ll google hdcp handshake.

J-Tech Digital Premium Quality 1080P HDMI To HDMI + Audio (SPDIF + RCA Stereo) Audio Extractor Converter (JTDAT5CH) LINK

Picked this up and it solved my problem and looks to be a pretty good temporary fix. Just in case anyone else ever has this problem.
