Which of these two receivers is more bang for the buck?

I don't have much experience with audio, but we bought a house last year that already had 4 Sony speakers hardwired in the corners of our living room. The owners took the receiver, central speaker, and subwoofer. So I'm looking to replace those and thinking now would be a good time since Black Friday is upon us. I also plan on buying a sub and central speaker too. Anyways, the two receivers (Sony and Onyko) that are on the Black Friday sale are listed below. For those of you with experience, which one would you buy? Which has more bang for the buck or more useful features?
Sony sale price $200, regular price $350
Onkyo sale price $250, regular price $400
From a brief look at the specs. It looks like the Onkyo has a higher watts per channel (170 vs the Sony's 145) and has video up conversion (whatever that is lol). The Onkyo also looks to have a good bit more inputs/outputs and a slightly higher customer rating. Leaning towards the Onkyo, but like I said...I have no experience withany of this. TIA

i've been happy with my onkyos over the years but i know they have had some major PR nightmares over bad components a few years back.
i'm out of the market on AVRs these days but the onkyo always seemed to pack the most features per price at the expense of QA.

I'd go with the Onkyo out of those two. And you'll notice it's actually rated at 100 watts per channel at 8 ohms with two channels driven. The 170 number is marketing BS.
