What storage device do I buy?

I want to buy another drive for my son's gaming PC but I'm a little confused about what to buy.
On his motherboard he has 1 Hyper M.2(PCIe Gen4 x4 & Sata3) port, 1 Hyper M.2(PCIe Gen 4 x4) port, and 8 SATA3 ports.
He has an M.2 Nand SSD in the 1st hyper m.2 port so it looks like he has another 1 hyper m.2 port and the 8 sata3 ports.
I want to get him a larger SSD drive. Should I get him a standard SSD drive or should I go with another NAND SSD drive?

Not picking on you at all, because it’s confusing in general, but you mixed and matched a few terms. So, for the sake of making sure we don’t screw anything up, do you know the exact model of the motherboard?
Also, how much total capacity are you looking to accomplish, and how price sensitive are you?

M.2 drives are faster than your standard SSDs.
Price is mostly the concern - but M.2 NVMe drives have gone down sharply in price.
You can get a 1TB Samsung 980 for 179.99 on Amazon (possibly cheaper elsewhere if you do some shopping around), $329.99 for the 2TB version.
If he doesn't need speed on that drive but rather raw storage capacity, you could get a standard HDD for $160 at 4TB.
Purpose and price point are going to be the main qualifiers.

I'm partial to the SK Hynix drives: LINK
I have a 1TB and a 2TB in my system. Exceptionally fast random read/write times and perform extremely well even as they get filled up. Unless he routinely moves massive files across drives, I just don't think the price to performance ratio is there yet for Gen 4 drives by comparison.
ETA: The 1TB version routinely goes on sale for about $105 and the 2TB less frequently goes on sale for around $220.
