I have a USB webcam connected to my local desktop running Windows 10. I VPN into my work network, then RDP into my work desktop, also running Win10. I'm having trouble with my local computer freezing when I try to use the camera with Google Meet.

I have done the following changes:

quote:

Group Policy Settings...

Computer Configuration \ Administrative Templates \ Windows Components \ Remote Desktop Services \ Remote Desktop Session Host \ Remote Session Environment \ RemoteFX for Windows Server 2008 R2 \ Configure RemoteFX

(Enable)

and

Computer Configuration \ Administrative Templates \ Windows Components \ Remote Desktop Services \ Remote Desktop Session Host \ Device and Resource Redirection\ Do not allow supported Plug and Play device redirection

(disable)

When I look on the host computer device manager, I see UVC Camera listed under the Remote Desktop Camera devices. Any ideas?

I don't think using a Webcam over RDP is a good idea. Latency will be an issue and the VPN should make the latency issue even worse.

Can you not access Google Meet locally on your computer outside of your RDP session?

Our VPN doesn't allow local traffic, so I would need to disconnect from the VPN in order to use Google Meet locally. That would be a problem if I need to share my screen during the meeting.

Does Google Meet have a cell phone app? You could use that with local internet traffic and still keep a session running on your RDP desktop for screen sharing?

I've done something similar with Microsoft Teams. I use my phone's camera for meetings more than my laptop camera.

Yes, that's what I've been doing. Just hoping there was a way to do it with the webcam.

I had a few of my end users try using Microsoft Teams back in April on RDP and the lag made it unusable.
