I have an old HP laptop with a crappy internal network card. (can only get 35mbs with Fiber 300 service) If I get one of those usb network adapters off Amazon, would it help get faster internet? I know I would have to disable the internal network card first. Thanks

Yes, it'll help. You don't necessarily need to disable the internal NIC, Windows (assuming) will know which interfaces are disabled and will ignore them for active interfaces with real IP addresses.
