Upload Speed question

I upload video from an HD camera for work.....At my office, I can get up to 70 Upload speed, at home on my iMac, I get around 20 but I am directly plugged in with an ethernet chord.
It is impossible to directly plug into our internet at work.
Which option is going to be faster?
TIA

Do you read?
I have a hardwire connection to a much faster Mac at home...that isnt splitting wifi with other computers.

if you get 70 upload at work and 20 at home, then work is faster.
have you tried running a speedtest at both locations to verify upload speeds you see? That should tell you whether to upload at home or work.

quote:Yeah, but your post is severely lacking in information, and the answer might come down to "try both and see" anyway. Most importantly, where is the video being uploaded to?
Do you read?
quote:This might not matter. There are basically 4 connections that could potentially be the bottleneck: camera->computer (likely not the bottleneck), computer->router/modem, router/modem->ISP, and ISP->video host. Of these, I would imagine the last one would be the bottleneck whether you are at home or work. But without more information and/or your own testing, we can't really know.

That isn't how this works...
I have a feeling you used this same attitude with your work IS, and they told you what I'm thinking...

I plug the camera directly into the computer at both home and work.
USB.
Uploaded to a website.
GrammarKnotsi: this is why people hate IS....because you dont help or solve problems but rather just insult and belittle.

Newsflash...This is the tech board, not your local helpdesk..
You asked which was faster, 70 or 20...
That is all there is to this..It doesn't matter what computer you use to upload..If one gets 70 and one gets 20, its moot

The weekly debate of wired vs wireless, should be pinned

That's the question I had to begin with....Thanks for answering the question on the Tech Board (where people ask questions all the f@#king time. Almost every thread is a question you prick.).

Its basic math...
Where was the question in that

Where was the question in that
1. Is the wired computer a faster upload than the wireless?
2. Does the computer's RAM matter in this circumstance?
3. What is my best option?

Is 70 a higher number than 20

2. Does the computer's RAM matter in this circumstance?
depends on the file size and other issues that could factor in

3. What is my best option?

Just did a speed test, and low and behold...when everyone else shows up to work the upload speeds dropped from 70 to 16.
Because we are splitting the wifi????
You know nothing Grammar Nazi.

This is the worst thread in the history of this board....and all you did was stereotype yourself.
Thanks for nothing. Usually this board helps with issues.

PS 13 of 19 threads on the first page are questions.

Most of them are not work related...Take your question to your local guy and let me know what he says...
ETA: Also, ask him why you use wireless in an office setting..Especially if it is setup as bad as it sounds

Just upload at work when nobody is there. Honestly both will be fast enough and I think you're putting too much thought into it.
