I use an old Motorola smartphone over wifi to run my stereo via Bluetooth. This thing is on its last legs, constantly buffering, issues opening apps, and just plain freezing up. I would just use a Kindle Fire tablet I have but there are many apps I use, primarily Apple Music, that are not available in the Amazon app store. Could I buy an unlocked phone to use over wifi to run a stereo? Don't see why I couldn't do this. Was thinking some cheap like a cheap Nokia phone off Amazon.

Yes, you can use any old smartphone to do that, and it doesn't need to be unlocked. When I finally upgraded my old Samsung smartphone (it wasn't an unlocked phone), I don't even remember what the model number was. I gave it to a friend to do just what your are wanting to do. That was well over 5 years ago and he's still using it to this day.

I'm currently using an old one (Verizon) and it's breaking down. Wondering if I can buy a new unlocked one and do the same thing. The way you phrase it I could run any phone from any network or unlocked over wifi and do the same thing.

Thanks.

Yes, that is what you can do. If you want to go super cheap just find an old, outdated smartphone. Do a factory reset and then set it up on your home network. Profit!
