Ubuntu Help Needed....Cannot boot a Dell off a USB drive??

I had a old Dell laptop (Latitude E6530) that became unstable so I took a chance a few years ago and installed Unbuntu onto it and it has work pretty damn good for years out in my shop. Just use it to surf web, you tube, music etc.
It would always update almost every time I used it and that took only a minute or too each time.
I had surgery in Nov, didn't power it down and it sat for 7 weeks. When I came to use it today the update failed and now it has the purple screen of death. (I guess this is Unbuntu version of Microsoft's blue screen of death.)
I have now created a new Unbutu USB flash drive to reinstall the system but I cannot get it to boot off the USB stick. I have try restarting and holding the F12, F8, F2, F1, Esc buttons but it always returns to "command line" stuff which is way over my head. (enter "help" for list of built in command)
How can I get this to boot off the USB to reinstall Ubuntu??

Disregard. I searched Ubuntu help and read to enter "fsck" and it cleaned up/fixed the problem and now I am now using the retread computer to type this!!

Glad it worked out. It's amazing how many extra years of life you can extract out of an old computer by just putting a Linux distro on it to replace Windows.

Most PCs do run better on Linux. I’ve been using Linux forever. If I would’ve had internet access over the last week, I would’ve helped you.
