Like many last August, after the Ida storm, I had no electricity or internet for weeks. What good does an internet-based landline do with no internet? What companies in La. still offer hard-wired landlines?

I honestly have no idea who is still offering plain old copper lines in Louisiana these days, but I remember this being a controversial thing 10 years ago with Superstorm Sandy with Verizon refusing to repair their copper infrastructure up North. Based on how that went, my guess is odds aren't good for the future of true landlines.

My parents still have their true landline from AT&T in SW LA. It's barely hanging by a thread, goes out all the time, and AT&T doesn't give two fricks if it works or not, but with enough complaining they will get a guy out there to fix it every now and then.
