At the link in the OP, it just says up to 5GB at 4G LTE. A little ways down it actually says the tethering is only at 3G.

When I click the link in the op it just says at during times of high congestion users with more than 50 gb of data may experience some throttling.

It says nothing on there about 5gb that I can find

Right, it's 50gb. Which I hotspott'd my cell phone on T-mobile and streamed for almost 5 hours to my daughters ipad for a trip 2 weekends ago and only used like almost 30gb. Still had 20gb remaining for the month and I never got close to that.

You have to really work to use 50gb but it is possible. In which case, they *MAY* throttle you down to 3g.

This is what I’m talking about. Am I misinterpreting this as you only get 5GB of 4G LTE?
ETA: Damnit! After I go through the trouble of attaching a pic on my phone I see now that it applies in Mexico and Canada.

lol no worries, I do the same kinda thing all the time.

I switched over today, pretty weird how easy it was to port over my cell number from AT&T. We will see how this all shakes out, so far zero noticeable change but I am in DC so I wouldn't expect any coverage difference.

Did you owe at all on your phone?

This is the only thing really stopping me from hitting the button right now.

No, I owned my phone outright (iPhone 6). The TMobile guy did mention they have they ability to buy out your contract up to a certain amount, but it was just a passing comment since I didn’t need it. Might want to just call and see if they will pay off your phone if you switch, worse they can say is no.

I asked and they will pay up to $650 to buy the phone/contract from AT&T.

I’m paying $160/month for AT&T, which I’ve never had problems with. I’m pretty close to pulling the trigger.

I'm switching.

What sort of documentation is required after you sign up?

I completed the switch today, it was painless - just swapped SIM cards and called customer service to port over our numbers from att. No noticeable difference in speed or quality, other than my bill now says $80 a month.

TMobile didn’t even ask for verification of my military status - although they may have some way of verifying that through other channels (credit, ssn, etc)

ETA: if you do swap make sure you have your account number and pin from AT&T first, they will need that to port over your numbers

This is the free market at work, and I love it. I have AT&T right now because my dad pays the bills in the house. When I get a job, I'll be switching over to either Verizon or T-Mobile thereafter.

Hope it works out man. I'm telling you, I love T-Mobile.
Make sure you download the "T-Mobile Tuesday" app for whatever phone you have.

Check it every tuesday and you'll get deals. I find that 3/5 are pointless to me but occassionally there's awesome ones. Like .30cents off gas at Shell. $5.50 Vudu credit for movie rental or purchase. This upcoming tuesday is a discount at Starbucks, etc.

The radio ad said you need to provide documentation within 45 days.

If they didn't ask for anything than you must be right.

I thought I read on their site that you didn't need it to setup the plan. Kind of seemed like they didn't want the stores handling that information which is good.

The only info they needed from me for verification was name, branch of service and month/year service ended. They texted me a link to do verification.

Edit to add clarity:

T-mobile reps never asked me for my service details. They just changed my plan and informed me that if I didn't verify my service that the plan would revert to it's previous price.

Is there a contract involved with this?

What did they require in the link?

No, t-mobile doesn't do contracts. They do phone purchase plans but I wouldn't consider that the same thing.

Just name, branch of service and month/year service ended. I forget the name of the company that did the verification.

Just FYI, I was already a t-mobile customer so I called to switch my plan. They changed the plan and told me to do the verification within a certain number of days. This process may be slightly different if you go to a store.

Awesome, I lost my dd214. It's somewhere in the house.

Sent off to get a new one and the freaking place says they haven't received my record from the usmc yet. I've been out completely for over 8 years.
