It's going to set an average between the number of coordinates it measures. The more the better, within reason, there is a finite amount of memory available...
For example...say you measure 16 points, 4 rows of 4....starting from a corner (typical for 200x200 build plates) it will compensate for any variation between point 1 and point 2, as well from point 1 and 5 (5 being the first point in the 2nd row)
01 02 03 04
05 06 07 08
09 10 11 12
13 14 15 16
Get it now?

So the compensation is done in the Z axis?
Posted on 2/6/21 at 9:10 pm to jambrous
Yes....
As you face the printer
X is left <> right
Y is front <> back
Z is up <> down

I understand. I knew the compensation had to come either from the hot end or the bed but i was thinking it came from the hot end. Thanks!

Sorry to kick up an old thread here but I wanted to share a project that I am working on. This is taking forever.
Youtube project
I am currently sanding it down again and adding more bondo.

Read this thread a while back. Will read it again this week.
I'm looking to buy a 3D printer for my kids for Christmas. They love projects and building stuff. This would be a great addition to what they already enjoy.
I'm looking for a versatile option that will need the least amount of tweaking out of the box.
Open to all suggestions. Just starting to do my research.

The ender 3 is a great starter printer for less than 200 bucks. You can find it on Amazon. That's my suggestion.

quote:That's pretty much what I've seen in the last hour of research. What gets me in the weeds is the auto-leveling and all that stuff. Just want to make sure I get the necessary upgrades for the easiest success early on.

I know this is a finicky hobby, and I'm good with that, but just want to avoid early pitfalls if possible.
ETA: I just read the whole thread again. Sounds like so many small issues that are hard to diagnose. I need to dive deeper into this.

Forget auto leveling. But if you need help I can help you with that. IF you build the dang thing square and flat and keep it that way you won't have any issues with level. At least I don't.
You are right. It is a hobby for some. For me a part of business. It's a machine...just remember that and you will keep your expectations in check. Good luck.

Thanks a bunch for your reply!
I'm sure I'll have 1000 questions.
So as far as recommendations go, you would also say Ender 3 with bltouch?

I would stay away from BLTouch for now. Just get the printer and learn how to level it yourself. It's better to learn your machine in my opinion. Bed leveling isn't hard. The BLTouch you can always add later. That's just my 2 cents.

Thank you. Should I go with the base ender 3, v2, or the pro?
Posted on 10/12/21 at 10:35 am to FnTigers
It depends on your budget. I got the regular ender 3. Good enough for me except....one day you will always want a bigger print volume. This is especially true with my iron man helmet and suit. If I had $500-$600 I would go with the ender 5 or the biggest one I could get (if I had no previous machine experience).
