Looking at getting kids a phone for Christmas, but only need texting, not ready for phone or internet access if possible.
Anybody done this for their kids, is there anything out there like this?

ipods or any cellphone without a sim card.
eta i should clarify. my 10yo has an ipod that she can facetime, apple message and use virtually anywhere as long as there is wifi.
if we're on trips and i'm feeling nice, i'll turn wifi sharing on so she can keep 'texting' while we are on the road.
works pretty well and you can control access to the phone much easier through wifi than if you had to deal with a cellular signal too.

My oldest is on my wifes ATT plan and my middle is on USMobile with an old Verizon phone of mine...Difference is almost $60 so IMHO, you should look into them

Kids don't make phone calls anyway. I've seen my 19 year old on an actual phone call maybe a dozen times in her life.
