quote:Yes currently I download the transactions from my banks and import those csv files into Actual. It is really smart about deduplicating and importing everything correctly, and categorizing based on rules I've created manually as well as ones it has "learned". It's really pretty painless, but like I said there is a Plaid integration that I'm going to try to get going so it will be all automatic.
So you have to manually import expenses into it?

I run bookstack for home related documentation to potentially be used by the wife/family. My personal notes and such are logseq+obsidian markdown i sync with syncthing.
Vaultwarden is cool when self hosted both because it fits under my tin foil hat and bc you get essentially all the paid license features "free". That means i can share passwords with the wife which now that ive finally got her on board is really nice (took a while to get there).
Paperless ngx is essentially a digial file cabinet. Send it documents and it stores them, does ocr, can do some tagging and automation too. You can send it stuff via browser, watched folder/smb share or email.
Silverbullet is a browser based markdown notes system thats still kind of early days but seems to be rapidly developed. Worth checking out.
Semaphore is a web based ansible runner. Only just starting to mess with it and im not the most ansible proficient but theres a lot of power in that.
If you're not familiar with tailscale i also suggest you look into it. Its a pretty sweet and simple way to create a wireguard based mesh network. Nowadays the free plan supports 100 devices which is more than i need.
i also have duckdns set up combined with letsencrypt wildcard cert for getting proper secured https even if i dont actually have a service available externally (most services are either internal only or only accessible from a few whitelisted pub IPs).
Also highly suggest pihole ad blocking dns server. I run it as a container.

quote:That would be my intended use for bookstack as well, but I've been thinking about this household docs problem for a long time and it's been hard for me to settle on something. It needs to be easy to use, but unfortunately that often comes at the expense of trapping the data into a particular format or structure. And for something like household docs which will need to grow and be accessible forever, I'm not sure I want to keep all of that in something like bookstack. Even though it is open source, and even though the data can be extracted from the db, it's still a lot to manage and maintain for potentially decades.

Like what happens if I've been gone for 10 years, my servers have long been shut down, and my wife needs to look up some procedure or info? I think for this particular use-case I'd rather the data in plain text like markdown. There are numerous wiki-style frontends to use with MD source files, or you can use obsidian or even notepad. Plaintext will always be accessible. The ease of version control is a plus.

How do y'all have tailscale implemented? I use OpenVPN with my opnsense devices

quote:It's just a userspace client that joins the device to the mesh vpn. I have pretty simple needs, so I run tailscale in my docker vm so that I can access my services from the other machines in my tailnet (my phone, my laptop, and my desktop at the office).

I have regular wireguard as a more traditional vpn setup but i use it a lot less now that i have ts. You basically just install the client on any device you want to be able to talk to each other. You can also set up certain devices as subnet routers so that you can use them to access devices on the same net that can't/dont have ts client on. They have some extra early release features that can basically public proxy services, sort of use ts auth as ssh keys, send files between devices and a few others but i dont really use those. Theres also a way you can share specific nodes/clients with other people including specific ACLs if so desired.

So I went ahead and got Snipe-It up and running. Need to figure out how to make it work better for my needs (Trading cards and not IT hardware), but I'm going to play around with it a little bit.
Was pretty easy to get up and running. This video is a great walkthrough
I'm also going to figure out a way to use it to keep track our freezer/pantry inventory

Docker container on my unRaid server. Works flawlessly.

Figured I'd add some shots of my server.

Not a big fan of Snipe IT so far. Don't like the lack of customization of main fields.
Would be outstanding for its actual use with IT asset management though
Current inventory setup
I just wish I could create multiple custom headers instead of having the whole card number under "asset name". I created custom fields, but you cant add those custom fields as filter headers

Anyone in the BR area want a Brocade ICX6610-24p switch? I'll do the hard part of flashing it with a valid license to get full 10gb SFP+ and POE to the 24 1gbe ports. Only has one PSU, but will have the ears for 2 post racks. Forgot I had a 3rd one
Just get me a decent bottle of tequila or something and you can have it
