Surface Laptop 2 vs Macbook

Hey guys,
Thanks for all the input on my inquires - I appreciate the guidance as I am a big ignorant on some of this stuff.
Was in the market for a new laptop, ended up snagging a Surface Laptop 2 yesterday on a cyber monday deal from Best Buy for $800, down from $1000.
I had previously been considering the new Macbook Air, but was a little scared off from the $1200 price tag and even more so when the surface went on sale.
Got the surface, it's fantastic (aside from a loud clicking trackpad, that i can deal with).
Had previously been sharing a 2015 Macbook Air with my wife (I use it a few days a week when I'm on the road, mostly email, simple documents, PDF's, media).
I am missing the iMessage (I know, a super small thing) more than I thought I would. It would seem ridiculous to return this thing to spend $400 on a lesser spec-ed device, right?
Also, ran cross this on CL. How does this compare spec-wise to the current Macbook Air, seems similar? LINK
