Sound quality question

I have an older TV I am hooking up to a sound bar. I need to use the pictured adapter to run from my headphone jack on the TV to the optical input n the soundbar.
My question is: Should I use just a regular aux cable to go from the headphone jack of the TV to the audio unput port of the adapter OR should I use a wire that goes from the headphone jack then splits into red and white to plug into the L/R input of the adapter. Does it matter? Will there be any difference in sound quality? TIA
